OUR THOUGHTS
Better Because … of Health

Inhale it up

We all have a summertime scent that transports us. What’s your favorite? Whether it’s just-cut grass or fresh tomatoes and basil, when you happen upon it, stop for a moment and breathe it in.

Put a small bouquet of fresh flowers in your bathroom

Little natural touches in unexpected places will keep you in a feel-great frame of mind.

Download a summer mix for your commute

Include only upbeat songs that remind you of the season (like “Fun, Fun, Fun” by the Beach Boys).

Start a farmers’-market ritual

Visit one near you weekly (every Saturday morning, say), and stock up on the fruit you’ve been missing all winter. Put those berries, peaches, watermelon, or whatever looks super-ripe into your smoothies, add a spa-like sprig of fresh mint, and sip slooowly.

OUR THOUGHTS
Better Because of … Mingma Sherpa!

Last month, I celebrated my 50th birthday.  In honor of living a half century, I decided to do 50 new things this year or about one per week.  My new things list unfolds each week and month.  Some activities are small, like making a cake from scratch, baking bread, or doing a head stand in yoga.  On the other hand, I put one big item on the list which was trekking to Everest Base Camp with a small group from the Wharton Executive Program.

I just returned from a 3 week expedition in Nepal last week.  Our team of 12 reached our summit at 18,200 feet and the thrill was accomplishing this all together.   In planning, experiencing and returning from Nepal, I’m reminded that it’s not just the goal that’s important. To me, it’s the entire adventure with people you care about and the people you meet along the way, that’s paramount.  On my trip, I was particularly impressed and grateful to our lead guide, “Mingma Sherpa” who not only took care of us on the trail, but introduced us to his marvelous parents (pictured with me) and hosted us at their guest house.

At 50, I’m grateful for all  life offers – the agonies and ecstasies – along the long and windy path.  Years are merely markers

in this exciting adventure called, LIFE!
